7 Ways to Break Through Procrastination

We've all been there... we know we need to get to work on something but we just don't feel motivated to get it done. When that feeling hits sometimes its ok to take a break but sometimes we need to find the motivation to break through the procrastination.

We've put together 7 ways to help you break through procrastination and start tackling those projects you've been putting off.

1. Break your tasks down into manageable chunks.

Breaking tasks down into manageable chunks is a great way to stay organized and productive. To do this, start by making a list of all the tasks that need to be completed. Then prioritize the list from most important to least important. Once you have the list in order, break each task down into small steps and set achievable deadlines for each step. This will help you stay on track and eliminate the feeling of being overwhelmed by the amount of work you need to do.

We especially like the daily and monthly day planner from BlueSky

2. Set a timer and get focused.

Setting a timer is a great way to focus on a task and stay on track. Try setting a timer for 15-20 minutes and focus on that task for the entire duration. Turn off any distractions like your phone or TV and work on the task without interruption. This will help you stay focused and accomplish more quickly. You'll be surprised how much you can get done in a short period of time.

3. Create a comfortable work space for yourself.

Creating the right workspace is key to staying productive. Start by finding a comfortable, quiet spot that won't be too distracting. Make sure you have a comfortable chair and desk or table to work on. If you're working from home, try to make sure the area is well-lit, and if possible, get some plants to help make it feel more inviting. If you need to, add some personal touches like a picture of your family or a favorite book. Lastly, make sure you have all the tools and supplies you need to get the job done. With the right setup, you'll be ready to get productive!

4. Eliminate distractions like cell phones or television.

One of the best ways to eliminate distractions like cell phones or television is to set boundaries that you feel you can keep. This could mean turning off your cell phone when you are trying to focus on a task, or setting a designated time limit for watching TV. You can utilize a timer or app to help you keep these boundaries. One of my favourite tools on my iPhone is the do not disturb feature.

5. Make a plan for the day and stick to it.

Start your day off right by making a plan for yourself and doing your best to stick to it. Start by making a list of the tasks that you need to complete in the day. Prioritize the tasks and then create a timeline for yourself. Set realistic goals and make sure to take regular breaks to keep your energy and motivation up. Finally, remember that it’s okay if you don’t complete everything on your list. You can adjust your plan as needed and congratulate yourself for staying on track!

6. Find a friend to hold you accountable.

Finding a friend to hold you accountable can be a great way to stay on track and reach your goals. Consider reaching out to someone you trust and asking them if they would be willing to help keep you accountable. You can both establish goals and a timeline for achieving them, and then check in with each other regularly to keep each other motivated. This can be a great way to stay focused and achieve your goals.
