6 Steps to Loving your Sock Drawer Again

Updated: Dec 28, 2022

My socks drawer used to suck the life out of me...

I would open the drawer to get dressed and be searching through a jumbled up mess for what felt like hours (dramatic much!). I would leave with mismatched socks and no power panties (you know the ones ❤️). It was not a great way to start my morning.

If you're like me getting these small areas organized can make a huge difference in your mood and the strain on your mental load.

Something had to change! Here's the 6 steps I followed to get organized and love my sock drawer again:

1) Empty the entire drawer of its contents and wiped it down for a fresh start.

The first step to a good organizing project is ALWAYS to pull everything out and start with a clean slate. It's the only way you can truly get a sense of what you're working with. If you try to leave items in the drawer or cupboard the job just doesn't feel as complete. Plus, it's a bonus to be able to vacuum or wipe the space you're organizing so it's lemony fresh and ready for it's nicely organized contents.

We love this vacuum for cleaning out drawers and cupboards.

2) Purchase (before starting this project) and arrange a set of underwear drawer organizers

Ok, hear me out on this one. Bins/containers in the drawer are KEY. You might lose a little bit of space but you'll gain a ton of sanity! This is the best way to know exactly where to go for everything in your socks drawer. No more searching and searching for just the right socks and undies.

We recently used this set in a client's drawers and this set from Ikea is always a winner.

3) Check every sock, undie, and bra to see if they need to be trashed

Gone are the day of single socks yearning for their partner and saggy bras that are slacking on the job. A good rule of thumb for staying organized is to review your under garments every six months and get rid of the duds.

4) Organize everything into categories

You know we love to categorized like items together and your sock drawer is no different. The are the categories I used for this project:

  • Regular socks

  • Comfy socks (you know the ones)

  • Thong undies

  • Full bum undies

  • Sports bras

  • Underwire bras

  • Pajamas

5) Put items back according to categories

This is a pretty straight forward step. Put items away... if you want to get really crazy you can put them in order of how you get dressed (ex: undies, bras, socks)

6) Start to love getting dressed in the morning (power panties prevail!)

Now you get to bask in the glory of your organization skills. Way to go! It's time to enjoy getting up in the morning, rock those power panties, and take over the world.

Mmmmmmmm I feel better about life just typing this out and reliving it in my mind (is that weird?!)

Anyway... sock drawer, get yours organized!
